Customer payments can be taken in one of two ways, depending on what suits your business best: Quick Service mode or Table Service mode. Quick Service mode displays only two payment methods on the Order screen: Cash and Credit Card. Table Service mode uses the Detailed payments screen.
If using an integrated payment processor like Lightspeed Payments or iZettle, the associated payment method button will replace Credit Card.
Taking payments in Quick Service mode
Quick Service mode allows users to take orders and process payments directly from the Order screen, and is best suited for quick-service businesses like food trucks or cafes. In this mode, only two payment methods will appear: Cash and Credit Card. To use another payment method, you will need to navigate to the Detailed payments screen by tapping More.
Processing cash payments
Process cash payments in the Lightspeed Restaurant app by tapping the Cash button or choosing from one of the smart suggestion buttons. The smart suggestion buttons will automatically apply the chosen amount to the order and display the Change due screen.
- In the Lightspeed Restaurant POS app, process an order.
- From the Order screen, tap Cash. The Cash payments panel will appear and display the Total due, the current balance of the bill, and any change due.
- Total due: The sub-total due on the bill.
- Balance: The remaining amount due on the bill.
- Change: The amount of change owed to the customer.
- Manually enter the amount of cash from the customer, or choose from one of the smart suggestion buttons.

Manually enter a tip, if applicable.

Tap Done. The payment will process and the Change due screen will appear.
- Tap Done again once the customer has been given their change to go back to the Tables screen and take another order. The receipt will be automatically Finalized.
Processing non-integrated card payments
Process non-integrated card payments in the Lightspeed Restaurant app by tapping the Credit Card button.
- In the Lightspeed Restaurant POS app, process an order.
- From the Order screen, tap Credit Card. The Credit card payments panel will appear and display the Credit Card Amount Due.
- Manually enter the amount to put on the credit card. The Total will change depending on the amount entered here.

- Tap Done to send the payment to the terminal for the customer to swipe or tap their card. The receipt will be automatically Finalized.
If the Amount exceeds the Credit Card Amount Due, a warning will pop up in the Add payment screen asking what to do with the extra money.
- Tap Add as tip to add the extra as a tipped amount, on top of anything entered into the Tip section.
- Tap Continue anyway to process the payment as entered. This will result in a negative amount on the receipt.

Tap Cancel to go back to the payments panel and adjust the amounts.
Taking payments in Table Service mode
Table Service mode is the default mode used with Lightspeed Restaurant, best suited for sit-down restaurants. This mode uses the Detailed payments screen, where users may process payments and tips, print receipts, split bills, void receipts, and more.
- In the Lightspeed Restaurant POS app, process an order.
- Tap Pay to process a payment on the Detailed payments screen.
Processing a payment on the Detailed payments screen
The Detailed payments screen allows the user to process payments via more options than just Cash and Credit Card. To learn more about adding additional payment types and what each type does, visit Adding a Payment Type.
- Tap the payment button you wish to use. If using an integrated payment processor, jump to Processing integrated card payments. If using Lightspeed Payments, jump to Processing a sale with Lightspeed Payments.
- In the payments panel, choose from the smart suggestion buttons (Cash option only) or manually enter the Amount.
- Manually enter a tip, if applicable.

Tap Done to process the payment. Once the payment processes, you will be returned to the Detailed payments screen and the receipt will be stamped with Paid.
- Tap Finalize to complete the order and return to the Tables screen.
Processing integrated card payments
Process integrated card payments in the Lightspeed Restaurant app by tapping the associated integrated payment button.
- In the Lightspeed Restaurant POS app, process an order.
- From the Order screen, tap the integrated payment button.
- (Optional) Sign into the integrated payment processor if needed.
- The user will then be prompted to process the payment via the swiper or card reader.
- Once the payment processes on the integrated payments device, the payments panel will automatically apply the paid amount to the receipt.
- Once the payment has been applied, the payments panel in Restaurant POS will automatically close.
Processing a sale with Lightspeed Payments
In the Lightspeed Restaurant app, process payments through Lightspeed Payments by tapping the Lightspeed Payments payment button.
- In the Lightspeed Restaurant POS app, process an order.
- From the Order screen, tap the Lightspeed Payments payment button.
- Proceed according to your restaurant's tip workflow:
- If your restaurant does not process card tips, follow the steps for Making a sale - when Sign on Paper enabled.
- If your restaurant processes card tips, follow the steps for Making a sale - when Sign on Device > Prompt for Tip enabled.
