Customer payments can be taken in one of two ways, depending on what suits your business best: Table Service mode or Quick Service mode. Table Service mode is the default mode used with Lightspeed Restaurant, best suited for sit-down restaurants. Quick Service mode allows users to take orders and process payments directly from the Order screen, and is best suited for quick-service businesses like food trucks or cafes.
Understanding payments in Quick Service mode
Enable Quick Service mode to take payments directly from the Order screen. In this mode, the only payment options are Cash and Credit Card, but you can easily access the detailed payments screen to use other payment methods by tapping More.
Receipt view
The Receipt view on the Order screen displays a list of order items, including the name, quantity, and price of each item, as well as the amount in taxes and the order's sub-total. From this screen, you can also edit an order, add a customer, or use the Actions panel.
Payment buttons
Choose from three payment buttons in Quick Service mode: Cash, Credit Card, or More. Tapping Cash or Credit Card will bring you to that payment method's payment screen. Tapping More will bring you to the Detailed payments screen.
Below the payment methods are smart amount suggestion buttons, which will automatically close the receipt as a cash payment and display the change due to the customer. Smart amount suggestions are calculated based on the total amount due and the most commonly used cash denominations.
Payment panel
Tapping a payment button will display a payment panel. The payments panel allows the user to quickly tap the payment amount details without having to navigate to another screen. For more information on interacting with the payments panel, visit Processing payments.
Understanding payments in Table Service mode
Table Service mode is the default mode in the Lightspeed Restaurant POS app and allows you to process orders in your restaurant. From the Order screen, you can access multiple functions of the POS.
- Place an order.
- Edit an order.
- Add a customer.
- View order details by Time, Product, Seat, User, or Course.
- Print an order to the kitchen and/or bar.
- View and edit the receipt for a finalized order.

Restrictions on Canadian customers
Due to unique provincial tax laws, the Order screen may look different for customers in Canada. This difference applies to customers in British Columbia, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario, and Quebec.
For these users, the only buttons available under the receipt will be Pay and More. When users select Pay, the total amount and taxes are calculated by the POS and the usual payment buttons and smart cash amounts will appear. You will then be able to use the Cash, Credit Card, and smart amount suggestion buttons in Quick Service mode, or the Detailed payments screen in Table Service mode.
