Hardware requirements

- Version 8.20 or higher of Lightspeed Restaurant for iOS
- Touch ID, Face ID, or a passcode must be enabled on your device

Initial setup
To attach the card reader to the back of your phone:
- Stick the adhesive metal plate to the back of the phone.
- Place the card reader on the plate.
- Connect the card reader to a power source using the supplied USB cable.
- Let the battery charge for at least an hour and a half before enabling Mobile Tap.
Enabling payments with Mobile Tap
Mobile Tap must be enabled through the Restaurant Manager before you begin accepting payments.
- Log in to the Restaurant Manager with your Lightspeed Restaurant account credentials.
- From the navigation menu, select Payment > Payment Types.
- Click Add Payment.
- Select Mobile Tap from the Type dropdown menu.
- Edit your settings as desired.
- Click OK to save the new payment type.
Understanding Mobile Tap settings
Once a payment method has been created, you can configure your settings to change how this payment method behaves.
- Name: The name of the payment method as it is displayed on the POS and on the consumer receipt. This name cannot be edited.
- Description: A brief description of the payment type, visible only in the Restaurant Manager.
- Type: The payment type's function in Restaurant POS. This must be set to Mobile Tap.
- Color: Determines the color of the button in Restaurant POS for the payment type.
- Auto finalize: When enabled, the receipt will finalize once the payment has been successfully processed.
- Auto print: Determines whether a receipt is automatically printed when processing transactions with this payment type.
Configuring tip options
With Mobile Tap, you can configure your tipping options to prompt predefined percentages of the total bill. These settings can be accessed in the Lightspeed Restaurant Manager.
To access your POS tipping options:
- Log in to the Restaurant Manager with your Lightspeed Restaurant account credentials.
- From the navigation menu, select Devices > Restaurant App Settings.
- Click the Edit icon of the profile you wish to edit.
- Navigate to the Payments and Tips section.
- Select Sign on Device.
- Use the checkbox to enable Prompt for Tip.
- In the Tip Percentages field, enter three suggested tip percentages.
All tip options will provide customers the option to 'skip' the tipping prompt or leave a custom tip amount.
Pairing the reader to your POS
Pairing from the Tools menu
To pair your reader before processing a sale:
- Open the Lightspeed Restaurant POS (L) app from your device.
- On the Restaurant POS login screen, tap Tools.
- Tap Pair Reader.
- Select the reader you would like to pair to open the Bluetooth pairing screen on your iOS device.
- Follow the prompts to pair your Mobile Tap reader to your POS and location.
Pairing during payment
If your Mobile Tap reader hasn’t been paired before a sale, you will be prompted to complete the pairing process the first time you take a Mobile Tap payment.
- Once all items are added to an order, tap Pay.
- Select Mobile Tap.
- Follow the prompts to pair your Mobile Tap reader to your POS and location.
- Once pairing is successful, you will return to the payment screen and can complete payment as usual.
Understanding status lights
You can determine the status and battery life of your reader by viewing the LED lights on its front.

You can check the battery charge level of the Mobile Tap reader on the terminal itself or within the Lightspeed POS app on your mobile device.
To check the battery charge level on the reader, press the power button on the side of the card reader. Each green LED represents a 25% charge.
