One of the advantages of Lightspeed Payments is that Lightspeed will take care of most of your gateway configurations for you, so you won't have to worry about making sure the lines of communication are open between your Lightspeed account and Lightspeed Payments. The only thing you'll need to configure on your own is the creation of the payment type for Lightspeed Payments.

Creating the Lightspeed Payments payment type

Creating a payment type for Lightspeed Payments will add a button to your POS that will initiate the payment process on your Lightspeed Payments terminal. Only payments initiated through this payment type will be processed through Lightspeed Payments.

To create the payment type:

1. In Restaurant Manager, click Payments.
2. Click Add Payment.
3. Enter the name that will appear on the POS button, for example, card payment or card.
4. Under type, use the drop-down menu to select Lightspeed Payments, or Cayan Genius if you are using any of our supported Genius terminals (Verifone MX915 Genius, Verifone P400 Genius, or Verifone e285 Genius). 
5. Optionally, click edit under color to change the color of the button.
6. Check the auto-finalized checkbox. When enabled, the receipt will finalize once the payment is successfully processed.
7. Optionally, check the auto print checkbox. If enabled, a receipt will automatically print when you tap this payment type in Restaurant POS.
8. Check the visibility checkbox to make sure the button will appear on your POS devices.

You'll now see the newly created payment type on the POS with the name and color you've given it.

Customizing your options with Lightspeed Payments

These options are not available with the Genius terminals or mobile tap.

Enabling tipping

The optional settings for Lightspeed Payments can be edited to enable tips or change how you take signatures. 

To enable tipping on the terminal:

1. Log in to Restaurant Manager with your Lightspeed credentials. 
2. From the navigation menu, go to Financial Services > Settings.
   
3. Navigate to Terminal Settings.
4. Click Tipping to enable.
5. Click Save.

Your customers will now be offered the option to add a tip on the terminal when paying for their checks.

By default, tipping percentages will be set to 15%, 18%, 20%, and "custom amount." To make changes to this setting:

1. Log in to Restaurant Manager with your Lightspeed credentials. 
2. From the navigation menu, go to Financial Services > Settings.
3. Navigate to Terminal Settings.
4. Configure your desired settings in the Tipping section.
   
5. Click Save.

Setting up your hardware

With the gateway activated and your preferences configured, you are now ready to set up your payment terminal.
