Hi. How can we help?

Setting up your Blackbox/Fiscal Data Module (Belgium)

As of July 2026, businesses in Belgium are required to set up or upgrade their Blackbox/Fiscal Data Module (FDM) to the Geregistreerd Kassasysteem (GKS) 2.0. GKS 2.0 models use a Local Access Network (LAN) connection and no longer require a Virtual Smart Card (VSC).

The Blackbox (also known as Fiscal Data Module or FDM) is a fiscal device that signs transactions and orders processed on a cash register system. The Blackbox is only required for restaurant and catering industry businesses in Belgium that meet specific federal requirements. For more information on who is required to register with a Blackbox device, refer to the official Federale Overheidsdienst Financiën website.

Before setting up your Blackbox, ensure that your localized FDM settings in the Restaurant Manager are set correctly.

Hardware requirements

Blackboxes used with GKS 1.0 are not compatible with GKS 2.0.

You will need:

  • The new Checkbox FDM device.
  • An Ethernet cable.
  • The power cable that came with the Checkbox.

Required information and Restaurant Manager settings

To allow the setup wizard to successfully configure FDM 2.0 in Restaurant Manager, you will need the following:

  • VAT number: Your unique Value-Added Tax number. To find this number, navigate to Settings > Company Settings and scroll down to Tax Registration Number, or refer to your Belgian VAT registration documents.
  • Establishment unit number: Your unique business location registration number. To find this number, navigate to Settings > Company Settings, or contact the Crossroads Bank for Enterprises.
  • CPOS number: Your unique POS identification number. This number is provided after registering for GKS 2.0.
  • Authentication token: The authentication token printed on your Checkbox FDM device.
  • FDM IP address: Your FDM device's IP address. Find this address on your router's connected devices list. If you don't know how to access your router's connected devices list, contact an IT professional or your internet provider.

You will also need to ensure certain settings are enabled and your POS devices are fully up-to-date.

  • Enable Prices include VAT in Settings > Company Settings.
  • Enter your full address in Settings > Company Settings.
  • Disable Closing reports (X/Z) in Settings > Report Settings.
  • Ensure your POS devices are fully up-to-date.
  • Ensure your Liteserver is fully up-to-date, online, and synced.
  • Ensure there are no open receipts.
  • Ensure your final Z-report has been completed for the current period.

Setting up the Blackbox

In order to comply with GSK 2.0 regulations, the Blackbox must have an Internet connection and be connected to the cash register.

To connect your Blackbox:

  1. Plug one end of the Ethernet cable into the Blackbox.
  2. Plug the other end of the Ethernet cable into your router.
  3. Connect the Blackbox to a power outlet.

Once the Power LED and the Network LED are solid green, your Blackbox is successfully connected.
