With Lightspeed Payments, you can manually enter a customer's credit card information during a sale. This is useful if you need to take an order over the phone or if a customer's card has been damaged and cannot be read by the payment terminal.
Manually processing a credit card offers less protection against chargebacks and incurs higher fees than processing a card with the payment terminal. We recommend using manual entry only when necessary. For more information, visit our article on Preventing chargebacks.
Creating a manual entry payment type
To begin accepting manual entry payments, you must enable this feature in your Lightspeed Back Office.
Configuring manual entry for the V400m, P400+, S1F2, and e280
- Log in to Restaurant Manager with your Lightspeed Restaurant account credentials.
- From the navigation menu, select Payments > Payment types.
- Click Add Payment.
- Configure your payment settings in the Add payment type popup.
- Click OK to save your new payment type.

| Name | Enter a name for the payment type such as Manual Entry. |
| Description | Enter a description for the payment type (optional) |
| Type | From the drop-down menu, select Lightspeed Payments. |
| Color | Select a color for the button in Restaurant POS. |
| Auto Finalize | If enabled, transactions will finalize when this payment type is selected. |
| Keyed Entry | Toggle this option to enable manual entry. |
| Auto Print | If enabled, a receipt will automatically print when this payment type is selected. |
Configuring manual entry for Genius payment terminals
- Log in to Restaurant Manager with your Lightspeed Restaurant account credentials.
- From the navigation menu, select Payments > Payment types.
- Click Add Payment.
- Configure your payment settings in the Add payment type popup.
- Click OK to save your new payment type.

Processing manual entry payments
- From the Order screen, add all items and discounts to the sale.
- Tap the manual entry payment type button you created.
- Follow the prompts on your Lightspeed Payments payment terminal to enter the credit card number and expiration date on the terminal.
- Complete the payment on the terminal.
- Once the payment is successfully processed, the terminal will display the approved payment.
